The Beta 200 we bought for Liam actually DID turn out to be a project bike. As I was getting ready to replace the fork and shock springs for Liam’s weight and dial in the suspension, the bike wouldn’t stay running. I tried everything to make sure we had spark and fuel, found the wrong spark plug in the bike, rebuilt the carburetor, and completely drained the gas tank, even finding part of the petcock bouncing around in there.

With help from Jared at 3 Seas, Morgan from Highland Cycles, and Phil from San Marcos Motorcycles, we finally figured out the Beta 200 electrical issues were due to the ECU and rear wiring harness. Everything else I did to verify what was working properly is just icing on the cake, and honestly this used dirt bike probably needed the extra TLC anyway.
I also decided to remove the swingarm and linkage to properly grease all the bearings. Since this Beta has had a few gremlins we didn’t expect, I wanted to ward off future sticking points if I could, even if I did forget to grease the headset bearings this time.
The Seat Time Garage isn’t one for the faint of heart — I’m the “figure it out” mechanic guy until I can’t figure it out, then I freak out and call Morgan at Highland Cycles, haha! Thanks for following along and helping round out my dirt bike mechanic knowledge!
