This past weekend was the fourth round of the TORO Winter Series. The weather in Texas has been a bit ‘different’ from the norm, so there is a bit more dust and less jackets than normal. The good thing is is that the racers and their families are coming out for a good time and that was easily found this past weekend.
The Pro class was stacked at 9am for the start of the Long Program. Caleb Ramsey was making his return from injury and Josh Weisenfels, GNCC XC2 racer, was looking to continue his progression to the front after his two years off the bike. Cole Kirkpatrick had a mid-pack start and Drew Higgins, newcomer to the Pro class, had his best start of the season. Cody Beck fought back from round three’s DNF to stay in the top three the entire race.
Once the two hours were up, Josh Weisenfels crossed the line first. His comeback to racing has steadily progressed and it will be fun to watch him battle the rest of the season. Cole Kirkpatrick finished second behind Weisenfels, riding strong the whole race but just not having the speed to catch Josh. Cody Beck rounded out the Pro podium after slowly reeling Kirkpatrick in. Beck was the Overall A rider last year for TORO and has adapted well during his sophomore venture into the Pro class.
Everyone rode awesome and it was great to see all the smiling faces out at the race. Hopefully next time I can remember to bring my bike and race the Sportsman class after doing some filming. Maybe hangout to enjoy a Pint Full of Awesome with a few friends!
